I don't know about you guys, but I look forward to red carpet events all year. Half the time, I'm not even paying attention to the awards or winners, I'm drooling over the gorgeous glam and stunning designer gowns. This year's Oscars were filled with classic looks and new spring trends. Let's take a look what's hot and what's not from this year's Oscars!
Fair skin + red lips
This look is definitely a red carpet classic. There's just something I love about the timeless feel of vintage waves and a bright red lip. This year I noticed it was a huge trend for girls with fair skin. There was a gorgeous amount of gold and nude dresses and accents with that pop of red. I think this look is perfect for any red carpet event.

This year I noticed that most of the tan/deep skin toned beauties went for a more neutral bronzy look. I love how the gold and brown tones look on Halle Barry, Janelle Monae, Chrissy Tiegen & Viola Davis. The gold tones on their eyes make the brown pop and the nude lip really brings a focus to their natural looking fresh-faced glolw. What's great about these looks is that they aren't just worn on a red carpet- they can be worn for an everyday look too. I personally like go go for something similar to Chrissy's nude lip and sultry brown smokey eye.

Love for Lavender
One trend I see being huge for spring after this year's Oscars is a gorgeous pop of purple on the eyes. I think most people are scared to play around with colour, but when done right- purple makes green and brown eyes really stand out. My favourite makeup look from the Oscars has to be Olivia Culpo's perfectly purple smokey eye. If you're feeling like lilac might be a little out of your comfort zone, you could try something a that's more muted like this look on Joan Smalls done by Patrick Ta or something like Naomie Harris's look done by Mario Dedivanovic.

Best & Worst Dressed
Even though Vanessa Hudgens wore this dress for the Oscar viewing party and not the red carpet- I don't care! I absolutely love this dress. It's a mix of edgy with the corset style lace bodice but feminine with the white and effortless draping of this chiffon fabric. Love love love.
Another look that I loved from the red carpet was Hailee Steinfeild's almost sheer turtleneck style dress. The light colours with the flower detail is so pretty and delicate looking. Love her hair slicked hair and bronzy makeup as well.
I think a picture is worth a thousand words on this one. I'm into the vintage look, but this was just not working for me. The hairstyle is dated and the minimal makeup looks like she stepped out of an old family wedding photo album. Sorry, Dakota Johnson!
